Commercial Artificial Turf Options by Property Type
The jobs below are framed around surfaces that sit indoors, on structures, or off the ground, because outdoor ground-level turf at these properties runs into the city's zoning rule (below). Each one still needs the property owner's or board's approval.

HOA Clubhouses and Common Areas
Boards often raise medians and entry beds first. Those are exactly the ground-level common areas the zoning section doesn't name, and Florida's HOA turf statute protects owners on their own parcels, not the association's land (see HOA turf rules). Indoor spaces are the easier project: a putting strip or game lane in the clubhouse, a turf floor in the fitness room. Put the city's answer and the product specs in the board minutes either way.

Condo Pool Decks and Amenity Decks
A podium pool deck or roof terrace is built over something: a garage, units, a membrane. Before any turf is priced, the building's engineer should say what the deck can carry and how water leaves it, and the association has to approve. Florida's condo statute routes changes to common elements through the declaration; the balcony page has the details. Fixr's table puts roof turf at $7 to $19 a square foot. Check with Development Services before the board votes.

Restaurants, Hotels and Vacation Rentals
Indoor lounges, event rooms and lawn-game corners are where turf fits most easily. Outdoors, keep grills, heaters and fire pits off it; Angi suggests a non-flammable turf near any open flame. A vacation rental in a single-family house is, on paper, a single-family use, so it may fall under the residential rules. Confirm how the city treats a house run as a short-term rental before you assume it does.

Offices, Showrooms and Indoor Spaces
Lobbies, showroom displays, break-room putting strips and trade-show floors. Indoors the question shifts from landscaping to the floor. Turf is a floor covering in a commercial building, and building officials can ask for its fire test:
- ASTM E648 measures the critical radiant flux of a floor covering, a measure of how readily flame spreads along it.
- Classes: an accredited lab report quoting the NFPA Life Safety Code gives Class I as 0.45 watts per square centimeter or higher and Class II as 0.22 to 0.44.
- A test report covers only the samples tested, so ask for the report on the exact product being quoted.
The landlord signs off first; indoor putting greens and gym turf cover those two jobs in detail.

Schools and Childcare Centers
Indoor play rooms can use turf over padding. Under climbing equipment, the surface needs an impact rating for the fall height, which is covered on playground turf. Outdoor play yards at a school or center are not a single-family use, so the zoning question below comes first, along with whatever your licensing agency requires.

Commercial Artificial Turf Zoning in Pompano Beach
This is the part that decides what's worth pricing. Pompano Beach added synthetic turf to its zoning code in Section 155.4303, "Standards for Specific Accessory Uses and Structures", item LL. The ordinance passed its second reading on December 9, 2025, and took effect on passage. Its use line reads:
"Permitted in all districts, restricted to single-family and two-family uses."
What that means for a business, condo or association:
Outdoor turf at ground level
on a commercial, multifamily or common-area property is not among the uses the section names. Don't sign anything for it until Planning and Zoning has looked at your property. The same section
says turf "may always be permitted as an impervious surface, as regulated by the intensity and dimensional standards of the subject zoning district". Whether that line helps a property outside single-family and two-family uses is a question only the city can answer for your lot.The state rule doesn't fill the gap
Florida DEP's turf FAQ answers "No" when asked whether its rule applies to condominiums, duplexes, parks, athletic fields or commercial properties.
Pompano Beach's Development Services department covers building permits, planning and zoning, and business tax receipts. General zoning questions go to the city's Planning and Zoning help desk, at City Hall, 100 West Atlantic Boulevard, or zoning@copbfl.com. The city's permit, survey and engineer paperwork for turf comes on top of the zoning answer.
Before ordering, have these in hand:
- The city's answer on zoning, in writing, for outdoor ground-level turf.
- The board, landlord or owner's approval, recorded.
- The product's ASTM E648 report for any indoor floor.
- How turf on a deck or roof drains and what it weighs, with the building's engineer or roofer.
- How the edges and seams are held down for wind, and who pulls loose panels in before a storm.
