Front Yard Artificial Grass in Pompano Beach, FL

  • Edging cost: HomeGuide prices a poured concrete mow strip at $3 to $8 per linear foot installed, and curbing at $5 to $18. The turf itself is priced by the square foot like any lawn (typical ranges).
  • Timeline: under a day to three days for the turf on most lots, plus 1 to 2 days of drying if a new concrete mow strip goes in first.
  • Choices: which plant beds stay, the barrier between turf and beds (3/8 inch thick at minimum in Pompano Beach), and the blade shape. Fixr points to M-shaped blades for the most natural look from the street.

Pompano Beach Turf connects you with one independent local installer. Ask for the turf, the planting beds and the edging as separate lines on one written quote.

Front Yard Artificial Grass Options in Pompano Beach

The front yard is where Pompano Beach's turf ordinance is strictest. A wall-to-wall green carpet out front isn't allowed: the city wants living plants beside the turf, a hard edge between the two, and nothing in the swale. Most front-yard plans end up combining these pieces.

Front-Lawn Conversions with Living Plant Beds

When turf goes in a front yard, the city requires living plants to go in or stay with it. The ordinance names the mix: two or more of shrubs, vines, trees or groundcover, in separate planted areas and tree wells where rain soaks straight down to the roots. So the beds get designed first and the turf is cut around them. At the state level, a 2011 informal opinion from Florida's Attorney General says the Florida-friendly landscaping statute "does not appear to preclude" artificial turf in a landscape plan, while leaving cities free to regulate it.

Mow Strips and Edging

Every border between turf and a bed or tree well needs a barrier at least 3/8 inch thick: a concrete mow strip, bender board or something similar. It keeps roots and runners from creeping under the turf. HomeGuide's prices:

Edging Price per linear foot Note
Poured concrete mow strip $3 to $8, installed
Landscape curbing $5 to $18, installed
Plastic edging $0.50 to $3 Cheapest, but HomeGuide says it isn't heavy enough to stop plants growing under it. Check its thickness against the 3/8 inch minimum.

Swales and the Public Right-of-Way

The grassy strip by the street and the shallow swale that carries stormwater stay out of the turf plan. Pompano Beach bans synthetic turf in public rights-of-way and swales, so the turf stops at your lot line. Ask the installer to mark that line on the plan before pricing anything near the curb.

Turf Along Driveways and Walkways

Where turf meets a driveway or front walk, the concrete is already a hard border, so there's less edging to buy. Long straight runs go quickly. Curves and narrow gaps don't, and fitting turf into them costs extra (see turf between pavers). Sprinkler heads along the drive have to be capped or turned away, since the ordinance says no irrigation may reach the turf.

HOA Front Yards

Florida Statute 720.3045 protects owners who install turf only where it can't be seen from the parcel's frontage, a neighboring parcel, a common area or a community golf course. A front yard is visible from the street by definition, so the association's architectural rules still govern it. Get the approval as a letter, with the product and the layout attached.

Front Yard Turf Cost and Timeline

Most of a front-yard estimate is the turf at the usual per-square-foot rate (cost guide ranges). The front yard adds line items a fenced backyard often doesn't:

  • Edging footage

Every bed and tree well has a border, so the quote should count linear feet as well as square feet.
  • Plant beds

New planting if the yard doesn't already have the two-type mix.
  • Irrigation work

Capping or redirecting the heads near the turf.
  • Sod removal and haul-away

    Check it's included.

Fixr puts the turf itself at under a day to three days of work. A new concrete mow strip comes first. HomeGuide says concrete edging takes under an hour to pour, 1 to 2 days to dry and 4 weeks to cure fully, with sprinklers off for the first 48 hours. Before any of it, the city's building permit has to be issued (permit, survey and engineer paperwork).

What to Check Before Turfing a Front Yard

  • The landscape plan

The permit application needs a scaled plan showing the turf area, the plant area and how they're separated, plus details of any irrigation near the turf. Ask who draws it and whether it's in the price.
  • Trees

If a tree is part of the work, the city wants a Broward County Registered Tree Trimmer to qualify the tree permit. Florida's rule also keeps turf out of drip lines without an arborist's sign-off (how that works).
  • Seams

The ordinance says seams between panels shouldn't be visible. Ask where they'll fall on a lawn everyone sees from the sidewalk.
  • Blade shape

Fixr recommends M-shaped blades for front yards because they let light through instead of shining.

Frequently asked questions

Is artificial grass allowed in front yards in Pompano Beach?

On houses and duplexes, yes, with conditions ([zoning rule](/services/commercial-artificial-turf/)). Front-yard turf must sit alongside living plant beds, with a barrier at least 3/8 inch thick between turf and beds. Sprinklers nearby get capped, and nothing goes in the swale or public right-of-way. Every job needs a building permit.

Can my HOA stop me from putting artificial grass in my front yard?

Usually it can. Florida Statute 720.3045 only bars an HOA from restricting items that can't be seen from the parcel's frontage, a neighboring parcel, a common area or a community golf course. A front yard faces the street, so the association's rules still apply. Get its approval in writing before you sign a contract.
